Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have become disheartening in Brazil with worldwide concern in the fight against the corona virus. Brazilian scientists have now banned the use of this 'Gamechanger' malaria drug by Donald Trump. He told that one fourth of the patients who were given this medicine as an experiment had a heart problem.
Earlier, US President Trump described chloroquine and its relatively new version hydroxychloroquine as a gamechanger drug in the fight against the corona virus. The Brazilian President had compared PM Modi to Hanuman, calling this medicine a Sanjivani herb. Earlier tests had revealed that this drug is effective in preventing the corona virus from reaching the cells.
Already severe side effects of the drug
However, this drug already has serious side effects and it hinders the heart beat leading to sudden death of the man. In the city of Manaus, Brazil, 440 seriously ill people with corona were given two doses of chloroquine, but researchers said that only 81 people recovered after giving this medicine. People who were given 600 mg of chloroquine twice a day for 10 days had difficulty in working their heart.
Research showed that there were more deaths in these groups of people after giving the drug. Brazilian researchers stopped giving the drug after this fact was revealed. Another group was given a dose of 450 mg of chloroquine medication twice a day on the first day. After this, this medicine was given once a day for four days. Research showed no signs of the virus from just one patient's throat swab. Two anti-biotic ceftriaxone and azithromycin were also given to those involved in this research.
