Riyaz Naikoo, the chief commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen in the Kashmir Valley, was killed along with a partner during an encounter in Begpora on Wednesday. The operation that the security forces carried out to wipe out the terrorist was named Jackboot. The army had many challenges in making this operation a success. The first challenge was that no citizen should suffer any kind during the end of Naiku. For this they had to be taken to a safe place.
Riyaz, a resident of Nayaku Mohalla of Panjgam in Avantipora, was extremely close to Burhan Wani. After Burhan for Hizbul, Naiku's poster became the poster boy for Tanjim. Sabzar Bhat was given command of Hizbul after Burhan was killed, but in the year 2017, Sabzar was killed in an encounter in Tral. Hizbul handed over the command of Hizbul to Nayaku instead of the old and active terrorists Altaf Kachroo and Saddam Padder when Sabzar was killed.
According to police sources, Hizbul wanted to reduce the influence of Zakir Musa in southern Kashmir by making Naiku a commander. Before Sabzar, Zakir Musa was made the commander of Hizbul. But after some time he started talking about promoting fundamentalist ideology, due to which the influence of Moses was increasing in Kashmir. This led Musa to break away from Hizbul and launch the Al Qaeda-backed Gajwatul Hind outfit in 2017. Musa was killed during an encounter in Tral on 23 May 2019.
Naiku first appeared in January 2016 in the funeral of terrorist Shariq Ahmed Bhat. After this, the practice of gun salute and recruitment of new youth started in the terrorist's massacre. Not only this, Nayaku kidnapped many family members of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the year 2018. Many of its videos went viral. Nayaku got his father released from the police to release the abducted people. After this, Naiku also warned the acid attack to those who participated in the local body elections.
